What makes it unique?
With a budget of over 23 billion pounds, the largest airport in the world will span an impressive 57 square kilometers. Specifically, around 12 kilometers will be dedicated to retail outlets, ensuring the best entertainment experiences for passengers. Moreover, the vision aims to expand passenger intake to 185 million annually by 2050. This ambitious project serves as a significant milestone under Saudi Vision 2030, an initiative designed to transform the country into a global tourism hub.
Notably, the master plan, introduced in November 2022, has recently been finalized and will feature both residential and recreational facilities. In addition, it is expected to be completed before the World Expo 2030, welcoming passengers to this world-class event. Meanwhile, the country is also preparing to host the FIFA World Cup 2034 after successfully organizing its highly regarded Saudi Pro League.
Besides this, the new airport is expected to significantly boost the Saudi economy. It is set to create thousands of jobs and attract international investments. It is set to provide 1.5 lakh job opportunities to people.
In line with Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainability, the airport will be equipped with eco-friendly technologies, including solar power and energy-efficient systems, making it one of the greenest airports in the world.
As the largest airport in the world, King Salman International is set to reshape global aviation. Its opening will elevate Saudi Arabia’s position in the international travel market and enhance connectivity between continents. It will drive economic growth and fostering cultural exchange.
The fun fact is the world’s largest airport, King Fahd International Airport (DMM), is also situated in Saudi Arabia. It welcomes about 10 million passengers every year.
